Chapter 3
Zhong Ning forcefully suppressed the urge to pull the person back and sat by the bed with a sense of loss.
‘She probably isn’t angry…’
Although she claimed to be blind, she walked smoothly to the bathroom. She must have lived in this room long enough to remember the layout.
Out of the corner of her eye, Zhong Ning saw her close the door. She rubbed her face hard. What kind of situation was this?
Since she had already come into contact with the villain, it was better to think of a way to keep herself alive.
The original host had ended up like that because she went against the villain.
Why couldn’t she try to please her?
Besides, she bore no grudge against villain. Why go looking for trouble?
Zhong Ning stood up and looked at the floor. There were two sets of clothes—one was a qipao, and the other a top and pants combo.
She made a comparison. The latter set was hers.
The long T-shirt barely covered her buttocks. After a moment’s thought, Zhong Ning decided not to wear the pants. She also wanted to take a shower.
Where was her phone?
First things first—she needed to find out both their identities quickly!
It would be truly awkward if she called the wrong name.
Meanwhile, Xie Shiqing, moving around the bathroom with familiarity, began filling the bathtub.
Although her body felt weak and sore, there was an unexpected sense of fullness, like someone about to freeze to death in the Arctic suddenly finding shelter from the wind. The warmth seeped through every joint in her body, relaxing her from the inside out.
Even the nerves that had ached for years had eased.
This was the effect of a 100% compatibility.
Xie Shiqing’s expression was icy cold as she submerged herself in the water.
Ever since her gland matured in adulthood, every heat cycle had been agonizing. She was an extremely rare SS-grade omega, with not a single alpha having a high compatibility with her—the highest had only been 20%.
Now, at twenty-seven, she had spent nine years relying solely on inhibitors to get through her heats. She couldn’t even use commercially available synthetic pheromones to alleviate her symptoms. Over time, she had developed a pheromone disorder.
It was an extremely rare condition. The patient would be irritable, manic, constantly plagued by headaches, suffer from loss of appetite, physical weakness, decreased immunity, and frequent heat cycles. There was no medical cure. The only solution was to find a compatible alpha whose pheromones could soothe her.
The day Zhong Ning reached adulthood and her pheromones were recorded, Xie Shiqing received a notification—they were a 100% match.
Only she could cure her illness.
Xie Shiqing approached the Zhong family with a marriage proposal. The Zhong family agreed, but Zhong Ning refused.
She had even come straight to her door, pointing at her and scolding her.
As if she were dying to be involved with her. A conceited fool who thought herself above everyone else—if it weren’t for the need to treat her illness, she’d feel the very air was tainted just by walking past her.
But this Zhong Ning was different, something had changed from her previous life.
Even the scent of her pheromones had changed.
A fresh grapefruit blossom fragrance, rich yet not overpowering, evoking hallucinations of springtime, sunshine, white clouds, and grassy fields—everything that felt warm and comforting.
Recalling her behavior during the day, and her current reactions...
Could it be that she had been reborn too?
Xie Shiqing rose from the bathtub and, with precision, draped a bathrobe over herself.
That Zhong Ning, who was easily manipulated like a pawn without even realizing it—even if reborn, she wouldn't amount to much.
So what exactly was going on...
Not bothering with her dripping wet hair, Xie Shiqing pushed open the bathroom door and heard rustling sounds inside the room.
The faint tapping of fingers on a phone screen.
Then, a slightly anxious female voice came through.
"Zhong Ning, did that blind woman kidnap you?! Pick up the phone!"
A cold sweat broke out on Zhong Ning instantly.
She raised her phone halfway, then remembered the other person couldn’t see, and awkwardly put it down, nervously explaining, "That... wasn’t me talking..."
A soft laugh came from the other side—it was hard to tell if it was mocking or indifferent.
"What do you think about the proposal I mentioned earlier?"
Proposal? What proposal?
Zhong Ning’s mind went blank. She had no idea what the original host and the other person had talked about. She cautiously asked, "Could you say it again?"
The slender woman adjusted her bathrobe. Every step she took left a damp footprint on the floor.
She walked up to Zhong Ning as though her vision were perfectly fine, twirling a damp strand of Zhong Ning’s hair around her finger, her red lips curling up.
"Sleep with me. A temporary mark. Five hundred thousand per time. Do you agree?"
Her tone lifted at the end, sweet and syrupy, like it was hooked.
Zhong Ning, however, only heard three words—five hundred thousand!
So much money!
So much money!
She had never planned to go against the villain. No matter what she said or wanted, Zhong Ning had intended to agree right away—as long as it didn’t involve breaking her legs.
She hadn’t expected that not only would she not suffer, but there’s even money coming her way.
And the woman wasn’t even that bad...
Zhong Ning nodded eagerly. "I agree, I agree."
Xie Shiqing said, "There are headphones and a phone on the bedside table. Could you bring them to me?"
Zhong Ning turned around and handed the items into her outstretched hand.
"Zhong Ning." The woman murmured her name, low and vague, tinged with a smile.
A few seconds later, Zhong Ning’s phone vibrated.
She looked down.
