Chapter 43

Saint Andros Academy, Student Council Office.

Linda had a bit of a headache.

Things had escalated too fast.

In just one day, Felyn had both Viloti and Bernice throwing themselves at him.

The battle between the long-standing school beauty and the newly crowned school idol had somehow ended up revolving around Felyn.

And now this morning, Adelina came to her saying she wanted to recommend Felyn as a volunteer for Lanche Academy. Linda honestly had no idea what to do anymore.

Because now, everyone was saying Felyn wasn’t just some simple incubus—he was an evil god who could use hypnotism.

If Felyn were to hypnotize and seduce Adelina, wouldn’t then Linda be making a serious sin?

“Linda, is something bothering you?”

Felyn waved his hand. He’d been standing there for almost five minutes already.

The Student Council President had summoned him into her office, but hadn’t said a word.

“Ah, sorry, Felyn. I was thinking about something.”

Linda faked a couple of coughs and placed the volunteer paperwork on the desk.

“You know about the joint school festival between Saint Andros and Lanche Academy, right? It's the first time both schools are doing this, so we’re exchanging volunteers.”

Felyn raised an eyebrow. This kind of noble event never had anything to do with him anyway.

Linda gestured for the other members in the office to leave.

“Adelina personally asked me this morning to take special care of you. Now, you have a chance to become Adelina’s exclusive volunteer assistant.”

She placed a pen on the desk and tapped it lightly.

“You just need to sign here.”

Felyn didn’t respond.

“Hmm? What’s wrong? Any concerns?”

Linda looked at Felyn’s expression and grew a little uneasy, thinking he was about to unleash some sort of hypnotic evil spell on her.

“Can I ask why I was chosen?”

“Of course—because your father helped Adelina before, and now she wants to return the favor. You’re not seriously thinking Adelina’s personally interested in you, are you?”

Was it really just that simple?

“If you join the volunteer event, you’ll not only get a daily allowance of 1500 crowns, but you’ll also receive an additional 10 points on your Royal Capital Academy entrance exam after the event ends.”

“An extra 10 points for the entrance exam?” Felyn was a little surprised. He hadn’t expected something as simple as a volunteer event to grant exam points.

“Yeah. Since it’s just the two of us here, I’ll be blunt. This is Adelina’s privilege. She’ll apply for an extra slot specifically for you—it won’t affect anyone else unfairly.”

Adelina had specifically told Linda not to mention this, but Linda wasn’t that kind of person.

If you’re going to be good to someone, you have to let them know you're being good to them.

“I’m sorry, but I’ll have to refuse.”

“No problem, just sign here and—wait, what did you say?”

Linda was so shocked that her voice rose sharply.

The chance to work alongside Adelina, who was ranked number one as the ideal lover in Lanche Academy students’ hearts, and with benefits that pushed the rules to their limits—how could Felyn possibly refuse?

“I want to focus on preparing for the entrance exams. Honestly, I'm so far behind that 10 extra points won’t bridge the gap.”

Felyn had just looked over the terms. If he signed, he’d have to spend a lot of time by Adelina’s side.

And this wasn’t like eating lunch with Viloti—it would be constant.

Plus, Viloti wasn’t his client, so spending time with her didn’t risk breaching any contracts.

But Adelina was his current client.

If he had to act in front of her all the time, it would be exhausting. Felyn didn’t believe he could keep it up.

And if he didn’t act, Adelina would start seeing two completely different versions of him—one during "service" and one in daily life.

That dissonance would impact the quality of his service contract.

So no matter how generous the conditions were, Felyn wouldn't agree.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving. Please convey my sincere thanks to Lady Adelina for all that she’s done for me.”

“Ah? Oh… Okay.”

Linda was stunned as Felyn walked away without looking back.

He actually rejected it... Could there be some grudge between them?

Well, maybe it was for the best. She had been worried that Adelina might get hypnotized too.

“Adelina, good afternoon. Just letting you know—uh, Felyn refused the volunteer offer.”

Listening to the communication sigil, Adelina, who was currently busy at the Lanche Academy Student Council Office, showed a flash of surprise in her eyes.

“Wait, Linda, hang on a second.”

Adelina left the student council office and stepped into an empty hallway.

“He didn’t want to?”

“Yeah, he said he wants to focus on studying for the Royal Capital Academy entrance exam. I even told him about all the benefits you arranged, but he still refused.”

“Linda! I told you not to say that!”

“Hehe, sorry, I just wanted him to know how much you were doing for him. I don’t want you to be silently giving your heart away.”

Adelina fell silent.

She couldn't understand why Felyn would turn it down.

She had dressed in her best outfit before leaving that morning, even styled her hair.

Her rose tea-colored long hair had been carefully curled into elegant waves, with her favorite perfume misted onto the ends.

She had pictured him in her mind—in this very familiar office, making her tea, listening to her vent, even squatting beside her complaining about Viloti.

But he wasn’t coming.

Why?

Adelina gripped the sigil tightly, unable to figure it out.

Felyn obviously loved her. Why would he pass up a chance to be near her?

“Did Felyn say anything else?”

“Oh right, he said he’s very grateful for everything you’ve done for him.”

Upon hearing this, a sudden realization hit Adelina.

She could practically see it now—inside Linda’s office, the expression Felyn must have worn: wanting so badly to be near her, but weighed down by his own inferiority and forced to decline.

Of course. How could she have made such a mistake?

Felyn did love her, but because their family statuses were so different, it made him feel inferior.

The Claude family wasn’t some minor nobility—they were an imperial-granted noble house overseeing the West Sivius Empire’s military industries.

The more he loved her, the more pain he would feel.

He was terrified of appearing in her life, of being around her people. He was scared of embarrassing her.

“You idiot... I don’t care about any of that…”

Adelina murmured softly.

But she had to admit—she hadn’t thought this through. By pushing this opportunity on him, she had inadvertently dragged his tender, humble love into the glaring sunlight.

“Linda, since I’m coming to your school today anyway, I’ll talk to him myself.”

You foolish boy, why would you ever think you’re not worthy?

Adelina looked at Felyn’s name shining on the communication sigil and whispered it in her heart.
