Chapter 4

Too weird.

Felyn racked his brain, trying to figure out why Adelina suddenly had the look of someone falling in love.

After a few seconds of thinking, he gave up.

Someone who could hold a grudge since kindergarten probably had some strange thought patterns he’d never be able to understand.

Adelina was weird to begin with—so wasn’t it normal for her to show strange expressions?

After freezing in place for thirty seconds, Adelina pulled her hands free and shoved Felyn hard.

“Who told you to touch my hand?”

Felyn fell to the ground from the push. His mind still hadn't caught up with what was happening, but years of professional experience kicked in, and he instinctively responded.

“I’m sorry, Lady Adelina. I know I’m still not worthy of you. I’ll work hard, as long as you give me a chance…”

Seeing him like this, a sudden pang of guilt flashed through Adelina’s heart.

Even after being pushed away, he looked so heartbroken.

He really loves me.

“Is dinner ready?” Adelina stood up slowly, unconsciously hugging the white pig plushie tightly.

“Almost. Just a stew left—it’ll take about half an hour.”

Felyn carefully straightened the wrinkles in her clothes. His hands inevitably brushed against Adelina’s soft skin.

Physical contact like this was a secret weapon in increasing client affection.

Felyn had trained himself not to show even a trace of teasing or flirty expression—those would ruin everything.

Adelina’s breath hitched slightly. She stood stiffly in place. Felyn was doing what he always did, yet today she could see it—unhidden love in his eyes.

“Why are you just standing there? Did you finish trimming the grass in the yard?”

Suppressing her emotions, Adelina crossed her arms and turned her head away.

“I’ll get to it right now.”

Madwoman.

First Viloti, now Adelina.

Such emotional instability.

No—Viloti was emotionally stable. Cold, but stable.

Felyn picked up the clippers and trimmed the grass from 3.5 cm to 3.48 cm.

In other words, he wasn’t actually cutting anything—just slacking off.

High salary, no boss breathing down his neck.

I love mowing the lawn!

Felyn shouted internally.

Adelina stood behind the floor-to-ceiling window, watching Felyn’s determined gaze.

His movements were slow and deliberate, as if sculpting a piece of art.

Even for something like trimming the lawn, a casual task she’d assigned, he was taking it seriously. No slacking off at all.

He really loves me!

Adelina shook her head, twisting a strand of rose-tea-colored hair around her finger.

She had hired him just to vent her frustrations, but if she kept thinking like this, it was dangerous.

She couldn’t forgive him—not yet. He needed to be taught a lesson.

But… maybe she didn’t have to be too harsh with him.

In the past, he had to work for her at least five hours a day, with no weekends.

She’d made unreasonable demands, paid him only 100,000 crowns a month, and often forgot to give him bonuses.

She’d never arranged paid vacations or health checkups, let alone overseas travel.

She’d really treated him terribly!

When Adelina came back to her senses, the lawn was empty except for the lonely reflection of the house. Her expression turned slightly panicked.

“Lady Adelina, dinner’s ready.”

The stew was finally done.

At the marble dining table, Felyn felt like a high school girl in a mini skirt trapped with a pervy man on a train.

Adelina nibbled on her fork, trying—badly—to hide the fact that she was stealing glances at him.

What’s going on?

Did her boring, robotic brain finally break?

“Lady Adelina, how’s dinner tonight? Is it to your liking?”

Pan-seared lamb chops, creamy mushroom soup, beef stew with potatoes, lemon-butter scallops, and her favorite—caramel pudding.

All carefully chosen from the “Adelina Dietary Guide,” where he kept track of her preferences over the past week.

“Huh? Oh—yes, it’s good, very good.”

Adelina jolted when he called her, then hurriedly nodded.

It’s all her favorites.

He really loves me.

“I haven’t asked your opinion on the Sunday banquet yet.”

Adelina twirled her hair with her right hand, eyes fixed on the golden lamb chops on her plate.

She’s asking my opinion?

My opinion?

Me?

Felyn paused mid-slice of his beef.

She never asked his opinion—ever. He only followed her orders.

Why the sudden change? It was so suspicious!

Was she planning something crazy for the banquet?

Like making him confess his love to her in front of everyone?

That would be social suicide!

“Of course I want to go with you, Lady Adelina. I’m just not sure… someone like me...”

Felyn’s expression was heavy, and this time it wasn’t an act.

“My presence might damage your reputation... and could cause trouble for your family.”

All of Seiwa’s nobility knew what happened to Felyn’s family.

Once the heir to the “Light of Seiwa,” now reduced to living off others.

If Adelina really brought him as her guest, it would spark outrage.

Felyn turned his head slightly, gazing out the window with a carefully crafted sorrow.

His face screamed: Don’t worry about me, I’m just a burden.

Adelina clenched her fork tightly.

He must’ve had such a hard time lately.

His family destroyed, his parents gone, barely scraping by.

And she had the nerve to insult his noble pride with money, throwing tantrums at him for no reason.

She wanted to hug him so badly—what should she do?

“It’s fine. I don’t mind,” said Adelina.

But I mind!

Felyn sighed inwardly. Clearly, it wasn’t going to be that easy to dissuade her.

After putting down her utensils, Adelina thought for a moment and walked to her room. She returned with an enchantment card.

“You’ll need to dress nicely for the banquet. There’s 100,000 crowns on this—go buy a suit.”

Felyn looked up in shock, carefully took the card with both hands, and double-checked it.

Inside, Adelina’s heart was in turmoil. I must treat him better from now on—he’s too pitiful!

“I’ve wronged you, and yet Lady Adelina is so gentle with me.”

“Ahem. Let’s eat.”

After dinner, now with a bonus in hand, Felyn cheerfully cleaned the dishes.

Adelina’s home was full of premium ingredients, delivered daily. He’d been eating pretty well himself.

All he had to do was talk to Adelina, do some chores, and enjoy the company of a beautiful girl. She wasn’t even that mean.

Felyn felt even the rag in his hand looked pleasing to the eye.

Ah, the power of money.

Adelina hugged her knees on the sofa, watching Felyn hum a little tune while cleaning.

Was he getting too happy?

Was her casual kindness really worth this much joy?

He really loves me.

Seeing him this happy, she felt a twinge of irritation.

She couldn’t even focus on her meal, while he was beaming.

“Lady Adelina, I warmed some milk for you and washed a few strawberries.”

“Strawberries for me? Do I look like I have time to wash my hands? Didn’t you think to bring a little fork?”

“Right here.”

Felyn pulled out a delicate set of utensils from his pocket.

“You don’t know that strawberries taste worse when eaten with a tiny fork?”

Felyn kept smiling patiently. Adelina’s tantrums were nothing new. The key was to push forward.

“Lady Adelina, my hands are very clean now. Would you like me to feed you?”

“F-Feed me?!”

A faint blush crept up her cheeks.

“Who said you could feed me? Don’t get so full of yourself!”

“Then let me wipe your hands for you.”

Felyn tore off a tissue and gently pulled her hand toward him when she didn’t resist.

Her fingers were long and fair, with just the right amount of softness.

He carefully wiped each gap, every inch of her skin.

Adelina slowly quieted down. Felyn smirked to himself.

Got you wrapped around my finger.

She was just a little unstable emotionally—not a lunatic.

She hadn’t even asked him to feed her strawberries with his feet. Compared to some clients, she was actually pretty normal.

The look in Felyn’s eyes wasn’t flirty—it was like how one might revere a deity.

He really loves me.

It’s time to reward him.

“Help me take off this ring.”

Felyn carefully removed the ring from her middle finger. One look, and it was clear it cost a fortune.

“Dinner was really good. This is for you.”

Adelina turned her head away. That excuse shouldn’t sound too forced.

Seeing the joy on Felyn’s face, she couldn’t help but smile a little herself.

What she didn’t know was that every professional instinct in Felyn’s brain had gone on high alert.

You’re giving me a ring worth hundreds of thousands just because dinner was good?

Who are you trying to fool?

What is with her today?

Was she seriously going to make me confess in public at the banquet?

And then what? Reject me harshly in front of everyone, have her fun, and then tear up the contract and cut all ties?

What am I, a human bomb?

“That’s all for today. You can go now.”

Adelina’s voice returned to its usual gentleness.

It wasn’t even 10 PM yet—still twenty minutes early. She never let him off early.

Felyn blinked, gave her a sweet smile.

“Lady Adelina, see you tomorrow.”

Damn it—I’m getting fired!

He screamed silently in his mind.

Adelina peeked through the curtains, watching Felyn walk away, turning back every few steps.

Even though he didn’t know she was watching, he still didn’t want to leave.

He really loves me.

Once his figure disappeared, Adelina finally stood up and rubbed her sore knees.

On the table, the milk he had prepared for her was still warm. Under the cup was a small note.

[Good night, my lady. I hope the world gets to see you a little sooner tomorrow.]

“You’re always writing stuff like this...”

She muttered, but still tucked the note into the secret drawer of the table.

Just then, her communication sigil buzzed.

Linda had sent over the student list for the upcoming joint hunting event.

Felyn Sorester.

Adelina immediately spotted the name.

She remembered visiting the Sorester estate years ago—those towering knights standing in perfect rows, proudly wearing the Sorester crest on their chests.

And now, their eldest son was reduced to joining a commoner activity.

Rain began to fall outside, tapping softly against the windowpane.

The bedroom was dimly lit, the only light coming from the warm glow of a lamp on the desk.

Adelina curled up on the sofa, cradling the steaming cup in her hands, the scent of milk spreading gently through the sound of rain.

She picked up her communication tool and slowly typed:

[Linda, would it be possible for me to take charge of the group assignments the day after tomorrow?]
