Chapter 18

Daiyi had been chosen by the gods since childhood to be a candidate for the Divine Child of the Church of Truth.

The so-called Divine Child was the agent of the gods in the mortal world.

All believers of the Church of Truth were required to follow the Divine Child’s guidance.

Daiyi was exceptional. She far outshone all other candidates of her generation.

But through years of study and reading, more and more doubts began to grow in her heart.

She began to suspect that the gods might not actually exist.

Or rather, that the gods were more like tools—tools used by the Church of Truth to mass-produce magic sigil in some unknown way.

Daiyi knew, of course, that this line of thinking was blasphemous.

She only confided in her teacher, who had raised her since she was small, hoping to find some kind of answer.

But unfortunately, her teacher could not tolerate such thoughts. She was branded a heretic and her secret was reported to her father and the elders.

Daiyi was stripped of her candidacy for the Divine Child.

Her father had been counting on Daiyi to become the Divine Child so that their family would rise to become the most powerful household in the Church of Truth.

But that dream was shattered.

In a fit of rage, her father disowned her.

On the grounds of blasphemy, he sent Daiyi alone to Seiwa, ordering her to reflect on her sins.

Everyone who had once been close to Daiyi changed overnight.

Ever since she left the Church of Truth, she had rarely interacted with others.

Because everyone who came into contact with her would end up unhappy.

Her thoughts were something they feared.

Hiring Felyn had been a momentary impulse.

After calming down, Daiyi felt that her decision had been incredibly childish.

She originally planned to let the contract expire and not renew it, but over time, she grew accustomed to having Felyn at her side, managing everything for her.

Perhaps even Daiyi herself didn’t realize that no matter what identity she held, at heart she was still just an eighteen-year-old girl who loved romantic stories.

Last week, Daiyi returned to the Church of Truth from Seiwa on her father’s orders.

Because the previous Divine Child had died not long after being chosen.

Her father saw this as a chance for Daiyi to be selected once again.

As long as Daiyi focused on preparing to become the Divine Child, he said he would forgive her past transgressions and allow her to return.

But all Daiyi could see in her father’s eyes was a thirst for power.

She refused.

And so, she was kicked out once more.

. . .

Silvermoon Valley.

The banquet was at its peak.

“Even if my parents aren’t around, we still have to act like a real couple. We eat together, do things together, sleep toge...”

Daiyi suddenly realized she had said something outrageous.

She gently patted the back of her hand to distract Felyn.

“You want to sleep with me, don’t you?”

Daiyi expressionlessly tossed the awkward question at Felyn.

Who would want that!

“If possible, I prefer a pure relationship with no physical contact.”

Felyn chose a response that wouldn’t offend her.

Any time the topic touched on a client’s body, even flirting had to be handled with care.

Otherwise, it would definitely be considered sexual harassment.

“Is that so? Faced with a beautiful girl like me, you still say that? Are you impotent?”

Felyn’s fists clenched.

This arrogant young lady who twirled her hair while saying such venomous things always thought everyone liked her.

Though to be fair, she was very beautiful.

And from a prestigious family.

And very beautiful.

He really wanted to pin her against a wall, watch her blush in panic, and whisper “Wanna try it tonight?”

But considering the twelve-thousand crown salary she paid him every month, and that she was clearly in a bad mood tonight—Felyn held back.

Groveling for money isn’t shameful.

“Miss Daiyi is just too beautiful. In my eyes, she radiates a divine brilliance. I simply dare not be disrespectful to a goddess.”

Dare not be disrespectful to a goddess.

When Daiyi heard that, her hand tightened around her teacup. She didn’t look up.

“What if I am disrespectful to the gods?”

“We’re lovers, aren’t we? I’d be disrespectful to the gods too. If I had to choose between the gods and Miss Daiyi, I’d definitely choose Miss Daiyi.”

Felyn flashed a perfect smile.

The gods of this world wouldn't care about such boring matters.

Daiyi was momentarily stunned when she heard that.

Felyn noticed a flicker of emotion in her eyes.

She slowly stood from her soft chair, her waist-length black hair sliding from her shoulders like a silken curtain.

Daiyi stopped in front of Felyn, leaned forward slightly, her red lips brushing near his ear.

Her breath, scented faintly of black tea, brushed gently against his skin.

The distance was too close.

So close Felyn could feel her slightly trembling breath.

So close he could see the shadow cast by her long lashes.

“Don’t go making promises to girls so easily,” she whispered in his ear.

Because I might take them seriously.

Felyn looked into her dark green eyes and finally saw a weariness he’d never seen before.

“Miss Daiyi, it must have been tough going back.”

Felyn stepped behind her and gently massaged her shoulders.

“As your boyfriend, letting Miss Daiyi show that kind of expression is a complete failure.”

Her shoulders were slender and soft. Even through the silk fabric, he could feel her slight trembling.

Her body was tense, like she wasn’t used to being touched.

But she didn’t pull away. She just lowered her head, letting Felyn’s hands rest on her shoulders.

Those shoulders that always carried cold air now seemed fragile.

Like a cat that is being petted while on guard.

“You have to take responsibility for me,” Daiyi suddenly said.

“Eh?”

“You’ve probably seduced a lot of clients this way, haven’t you?”

Daiyi turned her head, the corner of her mouth curling into a meaningful smile.

Her usually emotionless face suddenly bloomed with an astonishing beauty.

Mother, women are really unpredictable.

“Do you have time later?”

Daiyi asked suddenly.

“I’ll fulfill any request Miss Daiyi makes. I haven’t seen you in a week, and even my heart isn’t beating as fast as it used to.”

“I don’t have a place to stay.”

Felyn raised an eyebrow slightly.

“My suite in the Donk District was shut down, so I don’t have a place to stay tonight.”

A faint blush of distress appeared on Daiyi’s face as she turned to look at him.

“How many crowns do you have on you?” Felyn asked.

“About two hundred. Can you help me find somewhere to stay?”

That’s totally not enough!

“If it’s just a normal room for one night, that should be fine.”

Felyn thought for a moment, then asked,

“Could you stay at a friend’s place for now?”

“I don’t have friends.”

Daiyi said this rather serious fact in a light tone.

“That’s true.”

Felyn propped up his chin and began to think.

There was only one solution left.

Sleep on a park bench tonight. At least he could immerse himself in the local flavor of Seiwa.

Felyn was just about to speak when he remembered—today was Sunday.

According to the contract, today was a workday for serving Daiyi.

He had assumed she wouldn’t return this week, so he went to Viloti’s banquet to earn some extra money.

After all, Adelina paid him ten thousand crowns.

But since it was an official service day, he still had to fulfill the contract—even if it meant sleeping on the streets with her.

Spending a chilly night in an alley with a beautiful girl wasn’t too bad either.

If a stunning girl stood before you and pitifully said she had nowhere to go, most guys would probably invite her home and try to make a move.

Felyn would never do that.

There was no way he would let a client into his private life.

That would cross a line.

He absolutely had to stick to his principles.

But then again…

He was already selling himself. If the price was right, those principles could be adjusted.

Felyn wanted to get into the Royal Capital Academy, study divine arts, and escape his current situation.

The entrance exams for the Royal Capital Academy included knowledge of the Church.

But no schools outside the Capital, including those in Seiwa, taught theology.

To learn it, one had to pay for tutoring.

Nobles would often hire tutors with religious backgrounds for a hefty fee.

One session cost about fifty thousand crowns.

Felyn couldn’t afford such expensive lessons. Those tutors earned way more than he did.

Daiyi had already been accepted into the Royal Capital Academy, and with excellent grades at that.

And her family might even have ties to a church.

If she could tutor him in theology as a form of payment for staying over, it would be a great deal.

Actually, Felyn would be making a huge profit.

“If you don’t mind, how about staying at my place tonight?”

“At your place?”

He felt a cold gaze sweep over him. Turning around, he saw Daiyi standing with arms crossed, full of suspicion.

That stunning face with such a cold, guarded look would definitely trigger someone’s particular tastes.

“Of course, it’s not for free…”

That look grew even sharper.

It was as if she was saying, “Let’s see what perverted thing you say next.”

“Let me finish! I want to get into the Royal Capital Academy, so in exchange for staying at my place, could you teach me about the Church?”

Daiyi’s expression finally began to soften.

At least it was a transaction. That sounded reasonable.

If he didn’t ask for anything, that would be suspicious.

Still, it was a stranger’s home. She lowered her head, still hesitating.

“If not, we’ll just sleep on a park bench together.”

“Are there rats around the benches?”

“Definitely. Seiwa’s not known for cleanliness.”

Daiyi was silent for a long time before nodding with great difficulty.

For someone who talked so boldly, Miss Daiyi was surprisingly innocent in some ways.

Felyn felt like he’d scored big.

A fifty-thousand-crown theology class—saved.

It’s not like any other client would ever come to his place. He didn’t have friends either.

No one would ever know he lived with Daiyi.

A night like this wouldn’t happen again.

What he didn’t know was that just moments ago, on the balcony, a certain pink-haired young lady had already made up her mind to visit Felyn’s home next week to help him study.
